Rabbi SchwartzRabbi Joe Schwartz, spiritual leader of The Conservative Synagogue of Fifth Avenue is a native New Yorker who grew up on the Upper West Side and attended Hunter and the Dalton School. A graduate of Columbia University, Rabbi Schwartz earned his law degree at New York University School of Law, and was a practicing attorney before he entered the rabbinate. Rabbi Schwartz was ordained at the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies at the University of Judaism and lives with his wife Aly and son Zev in Park Slope.




RabbiGaffneyRabbi David Gaffney, Rabbi Emeritus of CSFA, was the Rabbi and spiritual leader of the Conservative Synagogue of Fifth Avenue for the 14 years before assuming the position as our Rabbi Emeritus. A native of the Lower East Side, Rabbi Gaffney had a distinguished career as the Rabbi of the Jacksonville Jewish Center in Jacksonville, Florida for many years. A graduate of the Rabbi Jacob Joseph School, where he was ordained as a rabbi, Rabbi Gaffney holds a BA from Brooklyn College, a MA from Yeshiva University and was honored with a Doctor of Divinity from the Jewish Theological Seminary. It is our honor to have Rabbi Gaffney join us at Yom Kippur services this year.





SarahKingSarah King hails from Baltimore, Maryland. Growing up at Beth El Congregation, she served as Bnei Mitzvah tutor, Torah reader, and more recently led the interactive family High Holiday services in 2012 and 2013. In addition to her synagogue career, Sarah is also a harpist and singer, having been involved in past performances with the High Desert Opera Company in Grand Junction Colorado, including The Mikado, The Barber of Seville, and The Elixer of Love. A graduate of Stern College for Women in New York City and Law School student at Cardozo, Sara is also a proud member of the Gilbert and Sullivan Society of New York and part-time Torah reader and Hazzan for the Conservative Synagogue of Fifth Avenue.



High Holiday services will take place at the Center for Jewish History, 15 West 16th Street, except where noted. Proper ID and tickets will be required to enter the Center for Jewish History. Tickets will be mailed to CSFA members prior to the holidays. If you are not a member and wish to purchase tickets, click on the PayPal “Buy Now” button below.
